Mill Creek Marsh, in Secaucus, is an outdoor reservation located on the border of North Bergen. It is directly connected with the Hackensack River. It contains 209 acres of land and was restored in 1998 when the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission created trails, added new plants, and fixed the tidal flow. This is a superb place to visit for a great outdoor experience as there are many hiking trails and plants to look at. There are also many different species of birds that inhabit the area which makes the marsh the perfect place to bird watch.

Walking Trail in Secaucus

One of the biggest assets to the marsh is the beautiful 1.5 mile walking trail. There are also about three miles of channels with canoe access. A lot of work has gone into making the marsh a nice place. Since the late 1990s, both pre and post restoration assessments, a hydrologic study, and a fish survey have all been conducted. The soil, water paths, and fish have all been monitored and studied to make sure that the marsh can operate efficiently and that it is very clean.

Birdwatching in Secaucus

Overall, the Mill Creek Marsh is one of the prettiest places to go in Secaucus. It is great to get some exercise outside, go birdwatching, or just appreciate how far the marsh has come since before its restoration. It is definitely a great nature-filled area, perfect for a day trip.
